Upper Tuscarawas River Watershed Action Plan
(July, 1999)
The Upper Tuscarawas River Watershed drains
approximately 52,000 acres of land from five subwatersheds within
Summit,
Stark,
and Portage
Counties into the Muskingum River Watershed and finally into the
Ohio River. The purpose of the Action Plan is to protect
and/or restore the water quality of the Upper Tuscarawas River
Watershed. The Plan characterizes key components within the
watershed that affect water quality, identifies potential
problems, and provides various mechanisms to improve or protect
local water resources. The ultimate intent of the the Action
Plan is to raise public awareness about the valuable environmental
resources in the watershed, leading to the creation and
implementation of stewardship projects and the use of Best
Management Practices (BMPs) in the watershed.
The preparation of this report by the
Northeast Ohio Four County Regional Planning and Development
Organization (NEFCO) was financed through the
Summit Soil
and Water conservation District (SWCD). The funding
originated from the State's Canal Lakes Watershed Management
Program, which is part of the
Ohio Department of Natural Resources Improvements Budget.
The report was approved by NEFCO's General Policy Board in July
1999.
