What is the Nimishillen Creek Watershed Partners?

The Nimishillen Creek Watershed Partners is a voluntary group consisting of Nimishillen Creek stakeholders with the mission "to promote the restoration of the Creek's water quality to fishable, swimable standards and the protection of the Creek corridor."  The Nimishillen Creek Watershed Partners meet as a group at least two times per year.

Who is a Nimishillen Creek Stakeholder?

A stakeholder is anyone that lives in the Nimishillen Creek Watershed or has interest in protecting the Creek.  These include:

  • Citizens
  • Local (City, Village, or Township), County (Commissioners), Regional (NEFCO, RC&D), and State Government (Ohio EPA, ODNR) Entities
  • Environmental, Nature, and Sportsman Groups
  • Educational Professionals and Students
  • Local Businesses

Why Become a Member?

It is your Creek and everyone who lives or works in the watershed contributes in some way to the overall health of Nimishillen Creek.  The Watershed Partners' meetings not only provide valuable insight on what is being done to improve the Creek, but also allows for stakeholders to actively participate, if desired, in improvement and protection efforts.

Many of the problems affecting Nimishillen Creek's water quality go beyond political boundaries.  The Nimishillen Creek Watershed Partners' meetings gather stakeholders from all areas of the watershed to discuss, and hopefully work towards improving watershed-wide problems.

How Do I Become a Member?

ANYONE is welcome to join the Nimishillen Creek Watershed Partners.  By simply attending a Watershed Partners meeting you will automatically be added to the membership/mailing list, unless you specifically state otherwise.  You can also be added to (or removed from) the membership list by contacting Eric Akin (330-252-0337) at NEFCO.  As a member, you will receive notification on upcoming meetings and other important watershed information.

Who Organizes Watershed Partners Meeting and Events?

The Nimishillen Creek Watershed Partners Core Committee, with assistance from NEFCO's Upper Tuscarawas River Watershed Coordinator, plans all Watershed Partners events.  The Core Committee currently consists of a diverse mix of approximately 15 Nimishillen Creek stakeholders who meet monthly to discuss and plan watershed improvement and protection actions.  NEFCO and the Upper Tuscarawas River Watershed Coordinator serve as a support for the group by scheduling meetings, producing mail-outs, gathering needed information, etc.  Two products of the Core Committee's actions this past year include the Nimishillen Creek LEAP (Litter Elimination, Awareness, and Prevention) clean-up at Thurman Munson Memorial Stadium and Esmont Park, and the completion of the Nimishillen Creek Watershed Protection and Restoration grant application for the Ohio EPA.
