Nimishillen Creek
CWMP - Phase IV
(DRAFT)
Northeast Ohio Four County Regional
Planning and Development Organization (NEFCO) initiated a
watershed study to aid in the protection and/or restoration
of Nimishillen Creek’s water quality. The result of this
effort is the Nimishillen Creek Comprehensive Watershed
Management Plan (CWMP) separated into four Phases. Each
Phase of the CWMP was completed with extensive input from a
Technical Advisory Committee consisting of representatives
from local and county governments, business, agriculture,
and citizens.
The entire CWMP was submitted to the
State of Ohio in April of 2003 for review and endorsement.
As part of the endorsement process, the State recently
responded by forwarded comments regarding the CWMP. NEFCO’s
staff is currently working with local stakeholders to
address the State’s comments and setup a timeline for
endorsement. Contact NEFCO if
you would like a copy of the State’s comments.
Phase IV
Phase IV is the Home Sewage Treatment
System (HSTS) Plan developed by the
Stark County Health
Department and NEFCO for the Nimishillen Creek Watershed to
effectively coordinate the correction of failing home sewage
(septic) systems. This Plan identifies likely areas where
failing septic systems are affecting the Creek, provides
guidance for financial assistance to homeowners who need to
repair or replace their existing septic system, summarizes
long-term inspection and monitoring goals by the Health
Department, and outlines a comprehensive educational and
outreach program. The plan is still in DRAFT form and is
currently being reviewed by various State agencies.
