Nimishillen Creek CWMP - Phase III

Northeast Ohio Four County Regional Planning and Development Organization (NEFCO) initiated a watershed study to aid in the protection and/or restoration of Nimishillen Creek’s water quality.  The result of this effort is the Nimishillen Creek Comprehensive Watershed Management Plan (CWMP) separated into four Phases.  Each Phase of the CWMP was completed with extensive input from a Technical Advisory Committee consisting of representatives from local and county governments, business, agriculture, and citizens. 

The entire CWMP was submitted to the State of Ohio in April of 2003 for review and endorsement.  As part of the endorsement process, the State recently responded by forwarded comments regarding the CWMP.  NEFCO’s staff is currently working with local stakeholders to address the State’s comments and setup a timeline for endorsement.  Contact NEFCO if you would like a copy of the State’s comments.

Phase III  

Phase III of the Nimishillen Creek Comprehensive Watershed Management Plan contains additional water quality information based on macroinvertebrate sampling at ten sites.  The main section of this report is the Nimishillen Creek Watershed Action Plan and Cost Analysis which is a strategic plan that aims to restore and protect water quality, habitat, wildlife, and recreational and commercial uses of natural resources in the Watershed.  The Action Plan outlines a series of seven goals and numerous objectives that, if achieved, should lead to a higher level of environmental quality and a preservation of important resources.  Lastly, the report contains information on advisory meetings held while developing this Phase of the Plan.  This report is still in DRAFT form and currently being reviewed by various State agencies.
