Nimishillen Creek LEAP

Litter Elimination, Awareness and Prevention

Each year the Nimishillen Creek Watershed Partners organize the Nimishillen Creek LEAP to clean-up heavily littered sections of the Creek and to heighten awareness of litter problems in local waterways.  Since beginning in 2002, volunteers have removed over 6 truck loads of garbage during the first two LEAP events.  Some of the more unique items removed include bicycles, tires, shopping carts, bottles of motor oil, and an oven.  Clean-up volunteers are astounded year-after-year at the items pulled out of Nimishillen Creek.

Volunteers Make a Difference!

Volunteers made the first two Nimishillen Creek LEAPs in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007 a huge success.  Over 60 people from all over Stark County and Northeast Ohio gave up their Saturday mornings to help clean-up small sections on the Creek.  As a thank you, the Watershed Partners provided a free lunch and information packet for each volunteer.

2008 Nimishillen Creek LEAP

The Nimishillen Creek Watershed Partners will begin planning for the seventh annual Nimishillen Creek LEAP in the Spring of 2008.  If you have a possible clean-up location or would like more information regarding this Creek LEAP contact Eric Akin at 330-252-0337.
