The Nimishillen Creek Watershed Partners are pleased to announce the ninth  annual Nimishillen Creek LEAP clean-up will be held the along Nimishillen Creek in the Village of East Sparta and Pike Township.  Volunteers are needed to help pick up debris along this section of the Nimishillen.  Those interested are asked to meet at 9:00 am at the Sandy Valley Community Park located at 10018 Cleveland Ave. SE.  From there volunteers will be divided into walking and canoeing clean-up crews then directed and/or shuttled to clean-up sites along the creek.  A free lunch for the volunteers will following the event.

Canoe Clean-up Crew:

For the first time the Nimishillen Creek LEAP will utilize canoes to help clean-up the Nimishillen upstream of East Sparta.  Stark Parks is providing the canoes, but space is limited.  If you are interested in being on the Canoeing Crew, please register prior to the event to ensure a spot.  You may also bring your own canoe to the event and join the paddlers.  Paddlers in the canoes should be prepared to get wet as the clean-up will require getting out of the canoe to pick up litter and dragging the canoe over shallower riffle area along the creek.  The canoe crew will cover about 4.2 miles the day of the event.

Walking Clean-up Crew:

The volunteers not on the =canoe clean-up crew will doing a traditional walking clean-up along Nimishillen Creek in East Sparta.  The clean-up route is approximately 1 miles starting in East Sparta and finishing at Sandy Valley Community Park, the site of the post event lunch.  Volunteers should be prepared to get wet and haul trash most of this distance.  Registration for the walking clean-up crew is appreciated but not required to secure a spot.
