Seventh Annual Nimishillen Creek LEAP

Litter Elimination, Awareness and Prevention

West Branch of Nimishillen Creek

West Parks Trail

Saturday, October 11, 2008

It took 7 years but the Nimishillen Creek Watershed Partners finally made it to the West Branch of Nimishillen Creek for their annual Creek LEAP.  The 2008 event removed litter and debris from the section of the West Branch along the recently completed West Parks Trail, part of Stark Parks hike and bike paths.  Over 40 volunteers in near perfect weather removed over 4 truckloads of trash, tires, and debris from over a mile of the West Branch.  Volunteers were treated to lunch after the clean-up and given a reusable shopping bag as a "thank you" gift to help reduce waste from retail stores.

The Watershed Partners were able to hold such a successful event thanks largely to the support from LEAP Sponsors.  These sponsors, listed at the bottom of the page, covered all the event costs including equipment and supplies like dumpsters, trash hauling, rakes, shovels, gloves, trash bags, food and beverage.  A special thanks to Brandi Adamski who help organize and run this year LEAP.  Below are some pictures of the 2008 Creek LEAP provided by Bryan Daniels and NEFCO.

The Watershed Partners will hold another Creek LEAP in the fall of 2009.  Contact Eric Akin for more information.  We hope to see you there!!
