The Nimishillen
Creek Watershed Partners greatly appreciate the support of
sponsors and volunteers for the Fifth Annual Nimishillen Creek
LEAP at Reifsnyder and Schreiber Parks. Over 30
volunteers and workers participated on a near perfect Saturday
morning to remove enough trash and debris to fill a 20 yard trash
bin. In addition, 25 tires were removed from the in and
along the Middle Branch of Nimishillen Creek.
In addition to the Clean-up, 16 interested
watershed residents arrived an hour before the event to take a
guided wetland tour of the only constructed storm water treatment
wetland in Stark County. Stark Parks' Darrin Petko guide
the volunteers on through the wetland constructed by the City of
Canton in 2003 to treat runoff from streets, parking lots, yards,
and rooftops. Thanks Darrin!
Besides clean-up volunteers, the
2006 Nimishillen Creek LEAP at Reifsnyder Park also had tremendous support from
local agencies and businesses. The
Watershed Partners
were able to hold such a successful event thanks largely to
the support from LEAP Sponsors. These
sponsors, listed at the bottom of the
page, covered all the event costs including equipment
and supplies like dumpsters, trash hauling, rakes, shovels,
gloves, trash bags, food and beverage.
